Each year, the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) and Commissioner Todd Staples spotlight rural communities through the GO TEXAN Hardworking Rural Community Awards. These awards showcase community leadership and ingenuity to preserve the past, celebrate the present and anticipate the future.
Winners receive grant funds toward community projects and statewide publicity that will impact their efforts to support and grow business, tourism and community investment dollars. Winning communities will also receive a trophy or plaque for display at their city halls.
We will begin accepting grant fund applications Thursday, April 1, 2010. All applications must be received no later than Tuesday, June 1, 2010.* Be sure to answer all questions on the application, indicating "not applicable" where necessary. Applications will be accepted via mail, fax or e-mail.
Information regarding tourism, community development and improvement, quality of life, economic development and strategies for future progress is requested on the application. We also ask you to include a proposed project(s) description and budget for which grant funds would be used if your community received this award. If you are an award recipient, we will supply you with procedures and guidelines for your approved project(s). All approved projects must include the use of the GO TEXAN mark and tagline.
