Every 4th weekend of the month: Uvalde Market Days - Uvalde County
Join us and become part of one of the most unique open air markets in southwest Texas. Come see the rich oasis surrounded by the Texas River Country and the historic town of Uvalde. This monthly event takes place at Memorial Park, located along Highway 90 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. on Saturday and 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. This month-long event at the Hutchinson County Museum will showcase beautiful textile arts from quilters around the region. On Sunday, June 11, Susan Denney, textile curator, will present a program on the care and nurturing of your heirloom quilts. Bring a heirloom quilt to share at the workshop! The 2010 Big Bend Ranch Rodeo is back August 13-14. Watch ranch teams from all over as they compete in two days of non-stop rodeo action. All proceeds go towards scholarships and financial assistance for Sul Ross State University students. On Saturday morning before the rodeo, check out the chuck wagon cook-off. Cooks and wagons compete against each for the most authentic camp food over an open fire or with coals in cast iron skillets. Other events include a Ranch Horse Association of America competition and a Ranch Horse Cutting competition. For 19 years, Marble Falls/Lake LBJ Chamber of Commerce has transformed Lake Marble Falls into a liquid quarter-mile "racetrack" and the banks of the lake into a wild three-day boat race party. Drag boat fans swarm Johnson Park on Friday evening for a chance to get up-close and personal with the drivers and boats. Race fans can purchase official shirts and posters for autographs and have their pictures taken with their favorites. Gates open at 7am on Saturday and Sunday for all day qualifying races. Watch top-fuel boats reach terrifying speeds of 240 miles per hour! The Maize Days Celebration is a local heritage event that has been around for 54 years. The second El Campo Prairie Day Festival will take place on Saturday, October 2 at Alamo Park. Festivities include all day and night entertainment, a spaghetti cook-off, tractor pull and exhibit, pony rides, kiddie events and more. The American Road Rally Race executed the first road race back in 2001, and this is the first year the event will be held in this area. The race will take place between Marfa and Presidio. Spend the day surrounded by chocolate at the Chocolate Lovers Festival-Saturday, Oct. 16. The day starts with a gourmet chocolate pancake breakfast, followed by a 5K Chocolate Dash. Chocolate Alley features samplings and treats for sale. View the best chocolate cakes and desserts, and all are open for bidding in the silent auction. A slip-n-slide, bounce-house, children's games and contests, pony rides, and rock-climbing wall entertain the kids throughout the afternoon. Roving chocolate-ambassadors will be distributing samples, and all crafts booths have free chocolate samples for visitors. The Historical Log Cabin Museum, an antique machine display, car show, and music will keep you entertained through the afternoon. The day ends with a very exciting chocolate-themed Fear Factor Contest. Live bugs are consumed - chocolate-covered, of course! Admission is free with small fees at booths.
